Take Action! H1366 To be heard on Tuesday, May 8, 2007
H1366, the School Violence Prevention Act, is scheduled for a hearing in the House Education Committee on Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
We feel confident that the bill will pass, but know that the right wingers are planning an amendment that strips out enumerated categories, the critical piece of the bill. At Equality NC we’re working with Covenant to directly lobby all 52 members of this committee to support the bill and oppose the amendment.
What you can do to help:
1. Email your Rep. if they are on the committee. Click the link below and type in your info. It will only let you send an email if you live in the district of a committee member. http://eqfed.org/campaign/h1366_1
2. Follow-up your email with a call
3. Ask folks in your group to also contact their legislators about this.
4. Make plans to attend the hearing on the 6th floor of the Legislative Office Building on Tuesday at 11:00. Check the website in the morning for confirmation that it is still on, as the calender is changing day to day right now.
If it passes this committee it will be heard in a Judiciary committee within a few days and then go to the House floor for a vote. We’ll keep you updated as this develops.
